MOSS FARM at RHONEYMEADE

Art of Nature — Act 48 Professional Development Workshop for Educators

10:00 am - 2:00 pm on October 4th.

Act 48 sponsored by PAEA.

The Art of Nature Educator Workshop by Moss Farm is a four-hour, hands-on professional development workshop for teaching artists and educators working with learners of all ages. Participants will be introduced to Moss Farm’s 32-module Art of Nature curriculum and its four-part progression: Stone, Plant, Animal, and Love—our human contribution of caring for one another and the natural world. https://mossfarm.org/art-of-nature.html#/

Art of Nature is rooted in the ways people have long used the materials around them to make, solve problems, and tell their stories. The curriculum begins with stone and earth pigments, expands into plants and fibers, then considers our relationship with animals through wool, beeswax, and silk. It concludes with shared making centered on care for one another and the natural world.

Through demonstration, guided hands-on work, and conversation, participants will experience selected activities from the curriculum and consider how they can be adapted for different ages, abilities, educational settings, and learning goals. Attention will also be given to respectfully sourced natural materials, trauma-sensitive facilitation, and the ways place-based making can support observation, creativity, problem-solving, self-expression, environmental awareness, and a stronger relationship with the natural world.

By the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

-Describe the purpose and progression of the Stone, Plant, Animal, and Love framework.

-Identify natural materials and processes represented within the Art of Nature curriculum.

-Explain how selected activities can support arts, environmental, and interdisciplinary learning.

-Identify a practical way to adapt an activity for their own learners or educational setting.

Completion will be demonstrated through participation in the hands-on work and discussion, followed by a short closing response identifying one activity and how it could be used or adapted within the participant’s own practice. All materials are provided as part of the workshop.

Also provides access to the full Moss Farm Film & Arts Invitational at Rhoneymeade, October 2–4, 2026 (optional).

A limited number of Art of Nature Educator Workshop pass fee waivers are available by request.
