Volunteer Spotlight-Kathy Weaver

“I’ve had the pleasure of volunteering at Rhoneymeade, the ancestral home of Leonard Rhone, for 8 years. My roots run deep in Penns Valley, my ancestors having settled here beginning in the early 1800’s. My mother was raised on a farm a few miles west of Rhoneymeade. Leonard Rhone was the founder of the Centre County Grange Fair and a guiding force in the agricultural movement of the 19th century. Among his many accomplishments was the founding of the Fair. Many generations of my mother’s family on the Ross and Homan sides have tented at the Fair, and my brother and I continue the tradition. Upon retiring, I searched for a non-profit volunteering opportunity in line with my interests in local history and protecting the natural world. When I’m at Rhoneymeade, my cares and worries melt away as I do good work!”
