Tree Report-Fred Bisbee

A Tree Report

Over the past four years we have partnered with IPL & the PPL group. They chose a challenge to plant 10,000 trees in the Susquehanna River watershed. Many of the trees were ornamental such as Flowering Dogwood or Redbud. Others were directed towards the birds and butterflies providing fruit and blossoms and foliage.

We were pleased to distribute over 2,000 trees in our region covering about 20 different zip codes.

Hopefully, most of the trees are doing well in spite of the lack of rainfall this summer. Don't forget the trees need water to go into the dormant stage this fall.

Also, some questioned how long to keep the plastic sleeves on the trees. If you have rabbit or deer browsers, it’s best to leave them on until the trees are well established. It could be 2-3 years or longer, with the trees developing well over the protective sleeve. Thanks for your participation.
