ACRES, ‘My Work’ program

4 kids from the ACRES program called, ‘My Work’, helped staffperson James Lesher on multiple projects Mon-Thurs mornings for 8 weeks from June-August. We painted barnsiding, historic house woodwork, the gazebo, and lawn chairs. We pulled weeds and mowed lawn. We levelled flagstones and extracted duckweed from the lily pool. We cleaned buildings, set up tents, washed windows, and scrubbed the HVAB funded roadsigns. We cleared trails and refreshed the meditative woodland labyrinth. We even built new Aldo Leopold benches.

We did so much more together. In short, we redefined how work was accomplished at Rhoneymeade this summer. It was a game changer. Thank you to the 4 kids (and ACRES intern Maddie) who helped James enhance and improve the Rhoneymeade site.

The most endearing moment of zen was perhaps for one kid who relaxed and figured out, after a few frustrated tries, how to lower a tree tube around a conservation seedling tree and thread the zip ties over the stake, all at once.
