Restoring Rhoneymeade

Maintaining and restoring any historic property and home such as Rhoneymeade can sometimes be challenging and costly. Our volunteers and staff work hard to keep up with this challenge. Here are some of the recent renovation projects that have happened (or are continuing) here at the Rhone House.

Exterior window restoration

Mother nature has taken a toll on the exterior of the Rhone House windows and other features. Some areas had progressed to needing more than a fresh coat of paint. Volunteer craftsmen have been working at these repairs over the last year.

Some window frames had begun to rot over recent decades

Areas like this were temporarily wrapped in aluminum in the fall of 2020 to protect and allow time for the wood to thoroughly dry out

In the summer of 2021 craftsmen removed the rotted wood, and replaced it with Pennsylvania grown white pine

Re-pointing of surrounding mortar and painting of the wood followed. Additional painting and reglazing of window sash in scheduled for this year. Of the 29 windows in Rhone House 9 needed more extensive repair similar to this one. Half of those have been restored to a safe state, and the work continues.
